For the last few weeks, my Saturdays have been filled with that wonderful chore known to many as “spring cleaning”. This is a time when we clear out garages, de-clutter our homes, clean out attics and prepare on our lawns and gardens to look fabulous. It’s a time to clean the mess, open the windows, and let the warmth and light shine in. More importantly, the newness and freshness of spring calls us to clean out our lives as well. Here are 6 ways we can Spring clean our lives:
1. Clean out our Pride and replace it with Humility.
God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. (James 4:6)
2. Clean out Anger and replace it with Self-Control.
An angry man stirs up dissension, and a hot-tempered one commits many sins. (Proverbs 29:22)
3. Clean our Revenge and replace it with Forgiveness.
Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. (1 Peter 3:9)
4. Clean out Complaining and replace it with Praise.
Do everything without grumbling or complaining. (Philippians 2:14)
5. Clean our Wicked Thoughts and replace that with Pure thoughts.
Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. (Philippians 4:8)
6. Clean out Gossip and replace it with Encouragement.
Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. (Ephesians 4:29)
Let’s commit to clean up the more undesirable areas of our lives. May God search us and reveal to us the spaces in our lives that need to become more Christ like. May we walk in faith and resist the temptation to sin and may we be clean and pure instruments in the redeemer’s hand.
